Deciphering GenZ Emojiglyphics

Have you ever worked with a GenZ colleague who literally communicated almost exclusively in emojiglyphics? Us too, and it’s really hard. Our researchers though have spent a LOT of time trying to decipher this strange way of communication, working on collaborating with this cohort of workers to better understand how this generation communicates with one another, and then we found that each emojiglyph was more an interpretation in context, as opposed to a clear and direct translation for each emojiglyph. Given this, we asked a GenZ cohort to build for us an essay about their day as a Product Manager, and we funneled that through a robust machine model our researchers painstakingly worked with to help decipher the context of the essay. We hope that sharing with you a sample essay, and translating it into plain English, that you too will find it easier to communicate with Generation Zed.

Somehow, an entire generation just gets this consistently; however, we are slowly using the powers of technology and research to unpack this new form of language emerging amongst our younger colleagues.
